The Forum for a new World Government (FnWG) is a place for debating about the ways and strategies to build a legitimate, effective, and democratic world governance. Not only do participants contribute innovative thinking on world governance, they also offer socially and politically viable proposals to get out of the current dead-end situation.

In 2008 and 2009, the Forum is articulated around the development of Proposal Papers. Located somewhere between thinking and action, the proposals, grouped together in these short publications on each of the fields of world governance, are intended both to serve as catalysts for an international collective debate and to constitute a tool to optimize and reinforce the actions of groups and individuals working on the implementation of new ideas and innovative practices that are up to the challenges of this early millennium.

For a World Citizen Movement
¤ FnWG Team ¤ 30 May 2014
We are a forum geared to changing world governance, from local to global. We believe it is time to help consolidate a World Citizen Movement headed both toward institutionalizing democratic world governance and toward transitioning to a more sustainable, solidarity-based world— a post-fossil and post-nuclear world for some, a post-speculation or post-capitalism world for others. It is generally considered today that world governance is in crisis. Citizens are well aware that tensions, (...) read more

Dictionary of World Power
¤ FnWG Team ¤ 27 September 2013
Since the end of the last century, the world has been facing a set of challenges that the existing institutions are unable to address and solve. This is a fact that has been confirmed over the last thirty years through a succession of all kinds of crises. Citizens have found that the beautiful ideal of freedom preached by free-market sycophants is just a facade set up to conceal the altar of greed. The Forum for a new World Governance explores these changes in this extensive work, only (...) read more

World Governance Index (WGI)
¤ FnWG Team, Renaud François ¤ 8 September 2011
Both a photograph and a means to induce action/reaction, the WGI has a twofold dimension. An analytical dimension—it tries to provide as true a reflection as possible of the state of world governance—and an operational dimension—it must enable players to act or to react in the direction of a more efficient, more democratic world governance more in phase with the environment. The index was designed mainly to offer political decision makers, whatever their level (national, regional or (...) read more

First Proposals for Building a New World-governance Architecture
¤ FnWG Team ¤ 25 June 2009
Although there have been a few attempts at building a new world governance, the latter has remained largely embryonic. It is nonetheless possible, in the vast open space of world governance, to move forward in great strides, even with limited means, precisely because there is plenty of space. Advancing proposals is a risky, but indispensable enterprise. The Proposal Papers that have so far been contributed to the Forum for a new World Governance are there as a way of daring to consider the (...) read more

Towards the WDF

From the Forum for a new World Governance (FnWG) to the World Democratic Forum (WDF)
¤ FnWG Team ¤ 2 June 2015
Translations: Français, Español The FnWG was born a little more than seven years ago, led by Gustavo Marin, hailing from the FPH, and Arnaud Blin, a longtime partner. In April 2013, Jean Rossiaud joined the two coordinators. On May 1, 2015 Gustavo Marin left the FnWG for a well-deserved retirement. Currently, Jean Rossiaud (Geneva) and Arnaud Blin (New York) are managing it jointly. A new phase of development will begin in July 2015. The forum is going to adopt a new name: World Democratic (...) read more

Letter to our readers and to the Mandela World Liberation Front
¤ FnWG Team ¤ 27 January 2014
Dear Friends of the FnWG, Much to our surprise, just as we were devoting our newsletter to the inspiring figure of Nelson Mandela (see “Rediscovering Nelson Mandela for the Twenty-first Century”), the Mandela World Liberation Front, unknown to us, asked us to publish their “MWLF: Statement No. 1” and to put it to discussion on our Forum. We liked the text for its vitality, for its ethical positioning, for its announced intention to be part of a broad movement of debate and action, and above (...) read more

Working Paper for the International Workshop Biocivilization for the Sustainability of Life and the Planet in the run-up to the Rio+20 Conference Rio de Janeiro, 9 to 12 August 2011 Which architecture of power is needed, from the local to global level? How should we organize? How can we organize in a fair and sustainable manner? How can we govern effectively? What Amazonia Does the World Need?
¤ FnWG Team, iBase ¤ 29 December 2008
Amazonia concentrates the essential contradictions of our era: our planet’s lung is being devastated by rampant deforestation, predatory mining, and chaotic urbanization. Its peoples may have been able to preserve the potential of their surrounding biodiversity, but Amazonia suffers from “bad” governance: it is deprived of a collective and rational management of its resources. Worse, it is an arena of recurrent Human Rights violations, with as primary victims its poorest, most humble (...) read more

¤ FnWG Team, iBase, Traversées ¤ 20 May 2010
On May 8-9, 2008, the Seminar “What Brazil and What Amazonia Does the World Need?” was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was organized by IBASE and the FnWG and attracted some 30 actors from different fields around the region to discuss the question of governance in Amazonia. The Amazon basin is the object of a constant struggle: on the one hand, there is a desire to exploit its natural resources and on the other, the need to preserve its biological and human diversity. Above all else, it (...) read more

Ressentiment* and World Governance
¤ FnWG Team ¤ 10 December 2009
It is no easy thing to refer to ressentiment without touching on the composite aspects the term conjures up. Broaching the question of ressentiment is complicated, since it often gives rise to misunderstandings and stirs up confused and contradictory feelings. In this Seminar we decided to tackle the issue of ressentiment by broaching frequently avoided questions concerning relations between a country and its people. The focus of conflict management is almost always on territorial (...) read more

The World Governance Index (WGI)
¤ FnWG Team, Renaud François ¤ 23 December 2011
The Forum for a new World Governance (FnWG) launched the World Governance Index - WGI project in 2008. The idea was to develop a “tool” that would allow the players in charge of governance to be aware of the emerging issues and problems, and to help them to find the necessary solutions. The paper “Rethinking Global Governance” defines the general objectives of this effort—to reduce inequalities, establish sustainable development, and build peace in a world of diversity—and frames some (...) read more
