Michel Rocard

Michel Rocard is considered one of the leading figures of the French left in the 20th century. Along with such luminaries as Jean Jaurès, Léon Blum, Pierre Mendès-France and François Mitterrand, Rocard helped lay the intellectual foundations of French socialism. As head of the French government in the 1980’s, he tried to implement his vision of socialism, enacting reforms that have had a lasting effect on French society. Famous for his unflappable honesty and integrity, Michel Rocard continues to be one of the more influential intellectual figures of French politics and one of the guiding lights of the left in the 21st century.
